Microwave Ovens
March 2014

Microwave ovens are an essential part of every kitchen. For commercial kitchens, it is important to use a commercial microwave oven as opposed to residential. Although residential microwave ovens are less costly, they will not be able to hold up to the demands a commercial kitchen brings, and they lack NSF sanitation standards.

Commercial microwave ovens are higher wattage which guarantees faster cooking as well as safer defrosting. They also have a more advanced heat distribution system which allows food to be evenly re-heated. The majority of commercial microwave ovens have programmable controls which not only makes it easy to use with one-touch start, but this feature also saves energy and is much more efficient.

Before purchasing your commercial microwave oven, it is important to consider how much power you will need.

  • 1000 Watt – This meets the minimum requirement and is recommended for small, limited use items such as the occasional sandwich meat or liquids.
  • 1200 Watt – This wattage is ideal for larger food items for both cooking and reheating. Most 1200 watt commercial microwave ovens come with touch pads and are cook time programmable.
  • 1700 Watt – This offers more power for bulk food reheating as well as a fast menu item turn around.

Commercial Microwave Ovens & Their Many Uses

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

Whether you are the head chef of a five star restaurant getting ready for this evening’s dinner service, or you are preparing lunches in a school cafeteria, the ability to quickly and efficiently prepare your food is a must. Having the best in commercial microwave ovens and knowing how to use them can make a great kitchen even better. We’ve outlined three of the most important uses of commercial microwave ovens below.

Thawing
Knowing when and how to properly thaw frozen foods is one of the most challenging parts of cooking, mostly because, when done properly, it can take literally the entire day. However, if you use commercial microwave ovens like the Panasonic NE-1022F, thawing your ingredients can be a quick and painless process. Here are a few things to remember:

  • When in doubt, use your commercial microwave oven’s thawing button for best results. The Panasonic NE 1022F comes with 1000 watts of power, ensuring that your food will be cooked perfectly every time on any heat level you need.
  • Make sure to stop the microwave and check your food throughout the pre-set time. If the food is warm, let it stand for a few moments before turning the microwave back one to ensure that it’s only defrosting, and not cooking. Give foods like soups or purees a stir before continuing to ensure even heat distribution.
  • Remember, for safety’s sake, to cook whatever you’re preparing immediately after you defrost it.

Steaming
Many people aren’t aware that steaming vegetables in commercial microwave ovens retains more nutrients than cooking them on the stove. For best results, add a little water, cover your dish with plastic wrap, and cook on high for a short amount of time. The Amana RC30S2 for example not only has 100 customizable memory settings, but 11 preset power levels designed cook your food perfectly whichever way you’d like it.

Reheating
Another little-known trick for commercial microwaves is that they can reheat and re-crisp meals or snacks like fries or potato chips. The key is to place a paper towel or napkin on top of the plate of food. The napkin will absorb the moisture that makes the food soggy leaving it crisp and ready to eat in just seconds.
Whether you’re thawing chicken for dinner with the Panasonic NE-1022F steaming veggies with the Amana RC30S2, or using one of our many other commercial microwave ovens, Short Order has what you need to reheat, steam, defrost, and cook all of your food to perfection.

Milk Coolers

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Milk coolers are pretty cool pieces of restaurant equipment, if you ask us, and they’re selling like hotcakes because nobody likes room-temperature milk straight out of the container.  (Maybe after you microwave it, sure, but you never want your initial point of contact with milk to be a lukewarm affair.  That’s why we here at Short Order offer a couple different models of milk coolers, and you, the consumer, are free to pick the one that suits your needs best.

Both milk coolers are manufactured by Beverage-Air.  Beverage-Air refrigerators are among our favorite refrigerators on the market, and there are a couple reasons for that.  First, the Beverage Air name is a name we trust.  When they manufacture a product, we know that product is going to be well-made, efficient, and impeccably designed from both a usability and visual perspective.  Their products also come with good warranties—not that you’re likely to need to use it, such is the quality of Beverage Air refrigeration products.

Their milk coolers are no different.  As previously mentioned, we offer two different milk coolers.  One, the Beverage-Air Milk Cooler SMF49Y-1-S, is 49″W x 47″H x 33.5″D, while the other, the Beverage-Air Milk Cooler SMF58-S, measures 58″W x 47″H x 33.5″D.  Each offers you the same quality and efficiency discerning restaurateurs have learned to expect from Beverage-Air, while offering different levels of capacity, each geared to suit different needs.  So the next time you’re considering investing in a milk cooler or two, consider the Beverage-Air line offered by Short Order.

Not looking to cool cartons of milk to crisp, calcium-infused chilliness?  Consider our extensive range of additional pieces of restaurant equipment.  Like we do with our Beverage-Air milk coolers, we stand behind each and every product we offer.  Check out what we have to offer today.

Commercial Microwaves

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Commercial microwaves are incredibly useful in the restaurant kitchen.  Though many fly under the radar in the restaurant kitchen of popular imaginations (you know, below the ubiquitous ice machines, griddles, and ranges), they’re every bit as important those more renowned pieces of equipment.  True restaurateurs, those who have been around the block and know that running a top-notch kitchen takes efficiency as well as attention to detail, prize commercial microwaves for their speed, versatility, and unique ability to make everything run more smoothly.

A good commercial microwave, such as Panasonic microwaves or Amana microwaves, will make a restaurant operate more smoothly in a number of ways.  Complex preparations don’t need to be as precisely orchestrated for everything to come out nice and toasty, since you can heat elements of it up just before serving.  Large quantities of water can also be heated with ease, and frozen foods can be thawed.   A commercial microwave will make everything a little bit simpler, which is a great thing to have in the hectic work environment that is a restaurant kitchen.

Panasonic Microwaves

We’ve got a great selection of these highly rated heating implements in our stock.  One is sure to fit your kitchen’s unique requirements.  They range from the efficient, compact Panasonic Microwave Oven NE-1258 to the heavy-duty, versatile Panasonic Commercial Steamer NE-3280, which handles both microwaving and steaming needs.  No matter which one you ultimately choose to go with, however, know that you’re getting a quality product that will get the job done every time.

We’re big fans of commercial microwaves, sure, but we also understand that there are a host of other pieces of restaurant equipment you might need for your kitchen more.  If that’s the case, or if you’d simply like to peruse, feel free to check our our large selection of restaurant equipment.

Amana Microwaves: Spotlight

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Amana microwaves are a very popular item, humming and heating food to perfection in home kitchens all across this fine country.  You, intrepid reader, might even have one in your very own home.  What you might not be so familiar with is that Amana also makes top-notch restaurant equipment, including a line of heavy-duty microwaves tailored for kitchens of all sizes and volumes.  Like we typically do with these posts, we’ll discuss some of the virtues of the manufacturer and product line in general (in this case being Amana microwaves), then highlight some of the features of specific models.

If you’ll recall, last time out, we waxed poetic (we’re permitting ourselves a little literary license here) on the virtues of Panasonic microwaves.  Like their Panasonic counterparts, Amana microwaves are made with precision and attention to detail.  They’re long-lasting, high-quality products, designed to withstand the pressures and stresses of heavily trafficked commercial kitchens the world over.  We’re very fond of Amana microwaves, bestowing upon them some of our highest accolades.

A majority of the Amana microwave models we sell, for example, are given a 5-star rating by our editors here at Short Order.  That’s the highest rating we give out.  What’s more, many of these microwaves have further been designated an Editor’s Choice, which means we consider them to be particularly spectacular models.  Finally, a number of our Amana microwaves are voted Best in Class by Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine, providing third-party validity to our lofty ratings.

All three of these accolades are bestowed upon the Amana Combiwave Oven ACE14, a model characterized by its user-friendly controls, stainless-steel exterior, and high batch volume and efficiency.  The Amana Combiwave Oven ACE14 is just one of many such excellent pieces of restaurant equipment we have for sale here at Short Order.  No matter what you’re looking to get done in your restaurant kitchen, we have products that can help.

Panasonic Microwaves: Spotlight

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Panasonic microwaves are a fixture in kitchens both commercial and home-oriented all across this fine land, which may come as a surprise to some restaurant equipment neophytes who associate the name Panasonic with TVs, telephones, phones, and faxes.  Though the electronics manufacturer is rightly lauded and renowned for their more famous home fixtures, their commercial microwave ovens are no less impressive.  Indeed, we favor them in particular among their line of products.  (Of course, being purveyors of restaurant equipment, we might be a little biased.  But certainly not much!)

Many Panasonic microwaves are excellent, but two that stand out include the Panasonic Commercial Microwave Oven NE-3280 and the Panasonic Commercial Microwave Oven NE-2157R, both of which were named Best in Class by Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine, a venerable industry publication.

Though Panasonic makes a mean microwave (and we’re not afraid to say it), there are a host of other microwaves that can suit your commercial microwaving needs, including Amana microwaves.

Of course, there comes a time when you, as a restaurateur, don’t need to heat up large quantities of an item in rapid, expert fashion.  Sometimes you need a machine to churn out massive quantities of half-dice ice cubes to chill drinks in a similarly rapid, expert fashion.  Or sometimes you don’t need the equipment to be rapid, and would instead just really love a place to store prepped sandwich items in a stable way so that you can assemble sandwiches in a rapid, expert fashion using fresh, delicious ingredients.  Fear not!  Short Order is here to help with all your restaurant equipment needs, large and small, from Vulcan cheese melters to

And no matter what product, drawn from our extensive stock, you finally choose settle on, you can rest assured knowing that it’s covered by our excellent Low Price Guarantee.  That’s hard to beat!

Panasonic Microwaves

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

Panasonic microwaves are the perfect tools you need for heating up large quantities of food or liquid in a restaurant setting.  If the name “Panasonic” sounds familiar to you, well, it would be hard for it to not ring a bell.  After all, they are those famed purveyors of electronic equipment of all stripes, including televisions, camcorders, phones, faxes, vacuum cleaners, blood pressure monitors…you get the idea.  Oh, let’s just list one more: home appliances.  Many a home kitchen across this fine land are festooned with bread makers, refrigerators, rice cookers, and microwaves from Panasonic.  There’s a reason why, and it’s more than just the ubiquity of the brand: Panasonic makes good stuff.

This good-stuff-making extends to the commercial kitchen, as well.  Take the Panasonic Commercial Microwave Oven NE-1024T, for example.  This 1000-watt model was voted Best in Class by Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine, which is a premier publication in the field.  Our editors happen to support this assessment, giving the microwave five stars.  All those accolades come with this affordable, useful model.

On the other end of the spectrum is the Panasonic Microwave Oven NE-3280, a true behemoth of a machine.  Its 3200 watts of power will cook whatever you need it to.  It’s got 10 programs available, as well, which makes operating the thing a whole lot easier and more effective.

As you can see, we’re pretty high on the microwaves we have available (check our Amana microwaves for examples of other ones we sell), but that’s not all we here at Short Order have to offer.  If you’re looking for any kind of restaurant equipment from a trusted manufacturer, like Vulcan ranges or Manitowoc ice machines, chances are we’ll have it, and we’ll be offering it at a fair price.  At Short Order, we’re here to make your commercial kitchen function more smoothly and efficiently.  Let us help!

Amana Microwaves

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Amana microwaves are, for our money, some of the best microwaves on the market.  Even if you’re new to the restaurant business, you’ll certainly recognize their name brand: After all, Amana is an industry leader in home appliances, which include everything from refrigerators to ranges.  You might be surprised to know, then, that they also produce excellent restaurant equipment—indeed, some of their offerings are some of our favorites.  Here’s just a few of the many microwaves that Amana manufactures and that we offer here at Short Order.

Amana Microwave Oven ALD10T

The Amana Microwave Oven ALD10T is an excellent, efficient product.  At $325.00, it’s also reasonably priced.  The 1000-watt ALD10T is NSF-approved, which should come as a seal of approval for all you restaurateurs looking to maintain an NSF-friendly commercial kitchen.  We’re pretty high on this microwave, having designated it an Editor’s Choice product and awarded it a five-star rating.  We’re not the only ones, either: the ALD10T was awarded Best in Class by Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine, a premier publication in the industry.  All told, this is a solid machine.

Amana Microwave Oven HDC12A

Looking for something a little more heavy-duty?  The Amana Microwave Oven HDC12A will serve you wonderfully.  The HDC12A features a stainless steel exterior and interior and is powered with 1200 watts, giving you plenty of juice to cook with.  Its extra power doesn’t mean that you’re buying a bulky product, however: The HDC12A is remarkably compact.  You get a lot of bang out of this tough guy, which is great news for kitchens where every square foot counts.  And really, what kitchen isn’t like that?

All these microwaves, along with many other products we’re proud to sell here at Short Order, come with our vaunted Low Price Guarantee.  That means you can rest easy knowing you’re getting a good product at a great price when you shop with us.

Microwaves

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Microwaves are every bit as indispensable to restaurant kitchens as they are to our own homes.  Indeed, they might even be more so, since, in the high-pressure environment of a commercial kitchen, such a premium is placed on time.  In addition to the commercial microwave’s ability to warm large quantities of food in a rapid manner, they also provide an excellent way to cook low-fat meals, and are also more energy-efficient than many other methods of cooking.

We here at Short Order stock models by two well-known appliance manufacturers, Amana and Panasonic.  Both of these companies make, among other things, excellent microwaves for the home.  But though the make names might be familiar to many home consumers, their capabilities certainly reach beyond what casual microwave operators are used to.  Simply put, these bad boys can cook.  (What’s more, they’re designed and built with NSF sanitation standards in mind, something that really matters to commercial kitchens.)

Without further ado, here’s one microwave from each manufacturer.  As always, these, along with all the other restaurant equipment we offer here at Short Order, are backed by our Low Price Guarantee.

Panasonic Microwave Oven NE-3280

The Panasonic Microwave Oven NE-3280 is a microwaving behemoth, capable of heating virtually anything your kitchen requires in a rapid and even fashion.  It has been voted “Best in Class” by the prestigious Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine, and has also been given a five-star rating by our editors here.  Ten preset programs are available for quick and uniform results every time.  And its 3200 watts of power means it can cook a lot.

Amana Microwave Oven ALD10T

The Amana Microwave Oven ALD10T is an NSF-approved, Food Service Equipment Supplies Magazine Best-in-Class model perfect for smaller restaurant kitchens.  Though it’s considerably lower-powered than the NE-3280, it’s also significantly more affordable.  And why pull out a jackhammer when all you need is an awl?
