Manitowoc Ice Machines: A Cool Choice

Wednesday, March 28th, 2012

It is only spring and an unexpected heat wave is seizing your town with an unheard of fiery grip. The news media is touting it as “unheralded” and “record breaking.” As luck would have it all the other restaurant equipment has been working just fine, and now that blasted ice machine is on the fritz again. No amount of MacGyver-like magic seems to fix it this time, and your employees are ferrying in half melted bags of ice by the truckload. And although you might be wearing a parka while reading this, it is never too late to replace that dinosaur of an ice machine, or buy a new one that lasts. One of the more popular brands to consider is our line of Manitowoc Ice Machines.

You swore to yourself that before summer you would look into purchasing a new ice machine for your establishment. With Manitowoc Ice Machines, you don’t need to worry about circuitry failures or broken parts. With Manitowoc, you pretty much just set it and forget it, heat wave or ice storm. When patrons come in to your place all clamoring for something cold and refreshing you will be able to give them a frosty cold beverage every time. From dice-sized ice production and nugget ice makers to small under-counter ice cubers and the Manitowoc Ice Machine ID-1402A/B-970/208/1which produces a whopping 1500 pounds of ice in 24 hours – Manitowoc has ice covered.

Because you never know when subpar restaurant equipment might take the week off, or when freakish and unseasonable weather might strike, its best to be prepared. When it comes to ice, Manitowoc Ice Machines will keep you and your beverages looking and feeling very cool.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Essential Ingredients

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Let’s talk about ice. It’s perhaps the most essential, yet overlooked ingredient for making the perfect cold beverage. Ice perserves the flavor of your favorite hors d ‘oeuvres, and keeps those delicious salads crisp. However, the production of this ingredient doesn’t just happen via magic or Mother Nature’s whim. No, for the ingredient of all ingredients, you need restaurant equipment like Manitowoc Ice Machines that produce those frozen cubes of water – the right way.

You might be thinking, “Hey, it’s just ice. What’s the big deal?” However, running out of ice in the middle of a busy day can really make you sweat—and not just from the heat. At Short Order, we have a large selection of powerful and high-production Manitowoc Ice Machines. That means you can rest assured, knowing that no amount of global warming or kitchen heat will make that ice melt. These ice machines are built for durability and long-lasting reliability. And Manitowoc Ice Machines don’t skimp one iota on ice production, which is a very good thing when the drinks are flowing and the food needs chilling. Imagine 340 pounds of ice in one hour. That’s how much ice the Manitowoc Ice Machine ID-0322A/208/1 can crank out. It is almost like having a mini polar ice cap right there in your establishment.

Ice machines, as restaurant equipment, may be one of the most underestimated tools in the kitchen or bar repertoire. Yet, when you lack ice, you lack one of the most important ingredients anywhere. Try making tasty libations without it, or keeping displayed meats and poultry cold. Try setting up your salad bar without plenty of ice on hand, and you’ll know why Manitowoc Ice Machines are a necessity.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Admiring Ice Production

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Ice is pretty important. You can skate on it; build an igloo and cute little sculptures out of it. It’s not all that fun to drive on, or scrape off car windows, but that doesn’t diminish the fact that we need ice. In fact, try running your establishment for just one day without any ice and you’ll notice its importance really quickly. From making tasty iced teas and iced coffees to chilling hors d’ oeuvres, blending the perfect cocktail and using in meat displays, you will likely need ice and lot’s of it. For that, Short Order carries such a nice selection of cool (yes, pun intended) Manitowoc Ice Machines that it would make a penguin happy.

Of course, any restaurant equipment is only cool if it is well built, reliable, and efficient. Manitowoc Ice Machines are widely considered one of the most reliable in the market place and available service reports rate them highly. They also utilize a system that efficiently minimizes water wasted and the cost to produce ice. All Manitowoc Ice Machines are made to be durable.

In fact, with the IndigoManitowoc Ice Machine ID-0322A/208/1, you get an amazing space-saving design, intelligent diagnostics, programmable ice production, and a Duratech stainless finish that resists fingerprints and dirt. With up to 350 lbs of daily ice production, you probably could build an igloo too. Now, if you’re trying to build a village of igloos or just need substantially more ice for your food service operations, the IndigoManitowoc Ice Machine IY-1004A/208/1, produces a walloping 1,020 pounds of ice production per day and includes all the same great features that are expected in a high quality ice machine.

At Short Order, whether its making ice sculptures or a playground for penguins, we believe that what you do with your restaurant equipment is your business. But, when it comes to high-quality and reliability we have you covered.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: No Tech Support Necessary

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Manitowoc Ice Machines will probably never spark a technological revolution. You can’t ask it questions, expect it to upload photos to Facebook or play music. Yet, you can take heart in the comfort that you also won’t have needed to memorize a phone number for tech support or upgrade contracts every few months like today’s innovations. The ice machines also produce enough cold cubes that you won’t have to worry about buying a truck full of bagged ice down the street or having to deconstruct an igloo.

We know that restaurant equipment doesn’t have to be fancy. It needs to do the job and do it well. Manitowoc Ice Machines are reliable and produce enough ice to create a miniature iceberg. Whether you’re chilling drinks, serving hors d’oeuvres, or stocking meat displays or a salad bar, ice is Manitowoc’s specialty. For example, the Energy Star compliant Manitowoc Ice Machine ID-0322A/208/1 is only 22 inches wide and still produces up to 350 pounds of ice per day. The “Easy to Clean Foodzone” makes cleaning simple and this unit also includes select components made with AlphaSan® antimicrobial. However, just because it’s just an ice machine doesn’t mean there aren’t some neat technology advancements available. The ID-0322A/208/1 features intelligent diagnostics providing “24 hour maintenance and diagnostic feedback for trouble free operations.” This unit also includes an “Acoustical Ice Sensing Probe” and an easy to operate display that allows you to program machine settings. The DualTech™ Exterior means this ice machine is both durable and looks great on the outside too.

We gave this Indigo™ series ice machine our Editors Choice and 5-Star rating because it is incredibly dependable, easy to clean and operating costs are minimal. At Short Order, we carry a wide assortment of Manitowoc Ice Machines in all shapes, sizes and ice production capacity. To help you decide which ice machines or other commercial restaurant equipment is best for your establishment, our Buyers Guides will help guide you eliminate the guesswork in the equipment purchase process.

Maintenance is a Breeze With Manitowoc Ice Machines

Friday, April 1st, 2011

When you’re on the market for new restaurant equipment, especially high-quality, top-flight equipment from trusted manufacturers like Manitowoc ice machines, you know you’re going to be making an investment into your restaurant’s future success.  You may be spending a decent chunk of change, but you know that money will pay dividends down the road, when you’ve had your equipment for a few years.  While cheap equipment ia often more likely to start breaking down with age, the good stuff is more likely to weather the typical wear and tear of a hustling, bustling commercial kitchen environment.

That is a great reason to buy the best restaurant equipment money can buy, pieces like Manitowoc ice machines.  Nevertheless, that’s not the only reason to opt for Manitowoc ice machines when you’re looking for new ice machines.   Manitowoc ice machines, like many other notable lines of restaurant equipment from the best manufacturers, are easy to maintain.  Cleaning any such ice machine according to the manufacturer’s recommendations is the best upkeep any owner can take.  And when a piece of restaurant equipment is well-conceived and artfully designed, regular upkeep is surprisingly easy to keep on top of.

Consider a common scourge of the ice machine, the buildup known as slime.  Slime consists of an accumulation of mold that occurs in ice machines.  It’s easy to stay on top of slime problems by regularly cleaning the ice machine in question while sprinkling in regular, deeper cleans to really keep your machine sparkling.

Now, that’s no so bad, but Manitowoc ice machines make it even easier to keep on top of things, with its sodium chloride sachet insert, which aids in the inhibition of mold growth.  And that’s just one of the many wonderful, thoughtful touches you’ll see in Manitowoc ice machines and other high-grade pieces of restaurant equipment.

The Manitowoc Ice Machine SY-1404A-208-1 is one of our favorite Manitowoc ice machines, and that’s no small statement.  After all, Manitowoc ice machines are renowned for their energy efficiency, reliability, and sound craftsmanship.  The Manitowoc warranty is excellently structured and certainly a plus, but considering how soundly Manitowoc ice machines are built, it’s likely to be a great feature that you won’t rely on.

Manitowoc Ice Machine SY-1404A-208-1 Features

We’ve already established that the Manitowoc Ice Machine SY-1404A-208-1 is a prodigious producer of ice cubes (something to the tune of a ton a every other day!), but that dazzling output is only part of the story.  The SY-1404A-208-1 has an array of other features, as well.  One such feature is its patented ice harvest technology, a feature that lowers the ice machine’s energy requirements.  What’s more, the refrigerant used in this Manitowoc ice machine is CFC-free, which improves the SY-1404A-208-1′s efficiency and green credentials.

What’s more, the Manitowoc Ice Machine SY-1404A-208-1 is an expertly designed product, featuring rounded corners that are easy on eyes and elbows.  It’s also a breeze to maintain, containing thoughtful touches like its easily accessible water distribution tube.

Restaurant Equipment

Whether you’re looking for a Manitowoc ice machine to cool things down in the kitchen or something to heat things up (say, Vulcan ranges or Frymaster fryers), Short Order has just the piece of restaurant equipment to keep you cooking.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Proudly Green

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Chances are, if you’re a regular follower of this blog, you know how much we appreciate the masterpieces of manufacturing that are Manitowoc ice machines.  There are a host of reasons for this appreciation.  They include, in an unordered and certainly incomplete list, their resiliency, their quality, their efficiency, and their excellent warranty (not that you’re likely to ever need to use it).

Well, we can go ahead and add another reason to love Manitowoc ice machines to this too-short list: their greenness.

Now, from a corporate perspective, it’s very trendy these days to pronounce yourself “green.”  One of the more frustrating things about the “green” term is that it is so nebulous that companies often toss it around without anything concrete to back it up.  Manitowoc is different.  According to a Manitowoc press release we found while cruising around on their site (yes, we do do that), upwards of 175 different Manitowoc ice machine models have been certified by the California Energy Commission.

Sure, 175 sounds like a lot, but Manitowoc has, what, 63 billion models?  Not so!  The press release goes on to say that over 97% of all Manitowoc cube ice machines meet or exceed strict standards put in place by groups such as the California Energy Commission or Energy Star.  That’s a significant chunk, and that’s certainly something to be proud of.

Another great, marginally related tidbit points out that Manitowoc ice machines come in a wide range of sizes, ranging from efficient ones that put out 30 pounds of ice daily to workhorses that pump out 1,800 pounds of ice in a 24-hour period.  Eighteen hundred pounds of ice!  Imagine how many perfectly chilled glasses of lemonade you could help facilitate with that!  It’s making our mouths water just considering the possibilities.

At Short Order, we’re proud to carry Manitowoc ice machines, a leader in restaurant equipment.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Easy To Clean

Friday, October 29th, 2010

The purchase of restaurant equipment is a huge investment, particularly when you select high quality, brand name equipment such as Manitowoc ice machines. But what you may pay for in dollars (and at ShortOrder we guarantee to offer the best prices available anywhere on all of our products) comes back to your food service kitchen in terms of convenience and quality. Enjoy years of high-production services from units like the Manitowoc Ice Machine Model SD-0452A, which produces up to 450 pounds of dice-sized cube ice every 24 hours. That’s a quarter ton of fresh ice to serve customers of your restaurant, bar or institution (these high-production machines are ideal for use in the commercial kitchens of hospitals, university dining halls and nursing homes).

To get the most out of an investment like Manitowoc ice machines, proper maintenance is necessary. This includes cleaning the unit as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Luckily, Manitowoc ice machines are equipped with special features that help cut down on how often you need to clean the machine, while making it as easy as possible to get the job done when the time comes.

With all ice machines, there are a couple main issues that must be addressed with cleaning. The first is slime in the ice machine. This condition is well-known to those of us in the food service industry, and it actually refers to a build up of mold that occurs in cool, moist places. You can imagine that an ice machine is absolutely ideal for this type of mold to thrive! To remove the slime, be sure to wipe down surfaces of your unit on a regular basis, and ensure that the internal workings are clean.

Some manufacturers, including Manitowoc, actually produce a sodium chloride sachet you can slide into a compartment on the door of the unit. This sachet helps inhibit mold growth in high-yeast environments, actually reducing the frequency of cleaning. It’s just one more way that Manitowoc ice machines pay you back with extra benefits and convenience. This is some particularly easy-to-clean restaurant equipment, and restaurant operators know that time is a scarce resource in our busy kitchens.

Next week, we’ll move on to address the second major issue of ice machine cleanliness. See you then!
