Advantages of Air-Cooled Manitowoc Ice Machines

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Manitowoc ice machines come in all shapes and sizes. You already know about the many different types of ice that Manitowoc ice machines can make, and that Manitowoc ice machines are easy to maintain… but did you know that they have a secret, energy-saving weapon? Manitowoc ice machines that are air-cooled could be the best restaurant equipment decision you make when it comes to ice.

About Air-Cooled Ice Machines

So what is an air-cooled ice machine? It’s pretty simple: air-cooled ice machines use a fan to reduce the heat generated by the mechanical refrigeration components inside. The alternative is a water-cooled ice machine, which circulates cool water around the components via pipes to keep the inside cool. The difference between the two, however, comes in the operational costs. Air-cooled ice machines use less energy and water than their water-cooled counterparts, since many water-cooled ice makers use more water to cool the system itself than to actually make ice. Thus, the cost of operation of air-cooled ice machines is lower, and they are more efficient for both day-to-day and long-term use. You could ultimately save quite a bit on your utility bills.

Air-Cooled Indigo Manitowoc Ice Machines

Manitowoc’s Indigo Series line of commercial ice machines, for example, contains some great air-cooled Manitowoc ice machines. The Manitowoc Ice Machine ID-0322A/B-320/115-1, for example, is an Energy Star certified machine that will get the job done with efficiency and ease. It monitors the machine’s critical systems, has an easy-read interface, and is fully programmable so that you can conveniently choose how much ice to make and when to make it. Never worry about losing ice production capabilities on a busy Friday night with Manitowoc ice machines in the kitchen. Manitowoc technology is steadily improving to keep commercial ice makers clean, efficient, safe, and energy-saving.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Proudly Green

Friday, February 18th, 2011

Chances are, if you’re a regular follower of this blog, you know how much we appreciate the masterpieces of manufacturing that are Manitowoc ice machines.  There are a host of reasons for this appreciation.  They include, in an unordered and certainly incomplete list, their resiliency, their quality, their efficiency, and their excellent warranty (not that you’re likely to ever need to use it).

Well, we can go ahead and add another reason to love Manitowoc ice machines to this too-short list: their greenness.

Now, from a corporate perspective, it’s very trendy these days to pronounce yourself “green.”  One of the more frustrating things about the “green” term is that it is so nebulous that companies often toss it around without anything concrete to back it up.  Manitowoc is different.  According to a Manitowoc press release we found while cruising around on their site (yes, we do do that), upwards of 175 different Manitowoc ice machine models have been certified by the California Energy Commission.

Sure, 175 sounds like a lot, but Manitowoc has, what, 63 billion models?  Not so!  The press release goes on to say that over 97% of all Manitowoc cube ice machines meet or exceed strict standards put in place by groups such as the California Energy Commission or Energy Star.  That’s a significant chunk, and that’s certainly something to be proud of.

Another great, marginally related tidbit points out that Manitowoc ice machines come in a wide range of sizes, ranging from efficient ones that put out 30 pounds of ice daily to workhorses that pump out 1,800 pounds of ice in a 24-hour period.  Eighteen hundred pounds of ice!  Imagine how many perfectly chilled glasses of lemonade you could help facilitate with that!  It’s making our mouths water just considering the possibilities.

At Short Order, we’re proud to carry Manitowoc ice machines, a leader in restaurant equipment.

Manitowoc Ice Machines: Flake Ice Your Holiday

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010

Here’s wishing everyone a white Christmas courtesy of Manitowoc ice machines.  After all, with their flake ice machine models, Manitowoc ice machines can crank out flaky, snowy ice with remarkable speed and efficiency, perfect for keeping food cool and fresh for displays.  Or, you know, for making snowballs (flake ice balls?) of remarkable density, texture, and roundness, perfect for tagging unwitting friends of sculpting mini-snowmen.  Point being, whatever you choose to do with your Manitowoc ice machine-derived flake ice, you can make it happen.

There’s a few models of flake Manitowoc ice machines that we’d like to point out for you today.  Consider, for example, the Manitowoc Ice Machine RF0399A/115-1, a top-notch model that cranks out 332 pounds of flake ice in a 24-hour period, and that is capable of storing 120 pounds in its bin.  Looking for a bit more space?  How about the Manitowoc Ice Machine RF0650/B-570/208-1, which more than doubles the production of the RF0399A at 688 pounds to go with its 430-pound storage bin?  Impressive stuff, if you ask us.  You could practically make a ski slope with this model!  (Okay, maybe not, but you could, at the very least, make a pretty impressive flake ice hill.  Perhaps an igloo?)

Mind you, we consider all these flake ice machines to be among the best in their class, which is why we’ve bestowed them with five-star ratings, and have given them all our coveted “Editor’s Choice” designation.  We stand behind those ratings, too: These are good (and good-looking) flake ice makers.  Manitowoc ice machines are the best!

All right, that’s our Manitowoc ice machines love for the week!  The next time you’re in the market for high quality, low-priced restaurant equipment, choose Short Order.  With our extensive range of equipment from quality manufacturers, we have something for every commercial kitchen.  Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

Manitowoc ice machines cut your electric bill

Manitowoc ice machines are part of a restaurant equipment revolution. Things are changing as restaurant owners and restaurant equipment manufacturers are realizing that energy-efficient restaurant equipment – like the Manitowoc ice machines in the innovative S-series – aren’t just good for the environment. They’re also good for a food service facility’s bottom line, putting more cash in your pocket. You could say that restaurant equipment is going green in more ways than one.

Manitowoc ice machines: setting the bar

In 2003, Manitowoc took the initiative in energy-efficient restaurant equipment with the S-series of Manitowoc ice machines. These impressive Manitowoc ice machines delivered a 25% average efficiency increase over the competitive models at the time, and continue to run more efficiently than most of the rest of the pack. Manitowoc ice machines bearing the “Energy Mizer” trademark are among the most energy-efficient restaurant equipment appliances you can buy.

Manitowoc ice machine energy rebate

Purchasers interested in energy-efficient restaurant equipment should be aware of the Manitowoc ice machines that earn energy rebates. Buyers in California and Wisconsin can save hundreds of dollars off their purchase of qualifying Manitowoc ice machines by selecting energy-efficient models approved by their states.

For example, Wisconsin buyers can choose the Manitowoc ice machine model SD-1002A/208/1 to garner an energy rebate and also save on their electric bills for many years to come. This Manitowoc ice machine SD-1002A is a Short Order editor’s choice that churns out 1060 pounds of ice every twenty-four hours. For smaller kitchens seeking energy-efficient restaurant equipment, take a look at the all-in-one Manitowoc ice machine model QM-45A. Producing 95 pounds of dice-sized ice in twenty-four hours, the rebate-eligible Manitowoc ice machine QM-45A stands on four adjustable 6″-7.5″ legs, and at three feet tall, fits well into cramped quarters. This Manitowoc ice machine is also a Short Order editor’s choice.

Manitowoc ice machines and the future of energy-efficient restaurant equipment

As the restaurant industry scrambles to meet the needs of restaurant equipment buyers, Manitowoc ice machines continue to evolve. As the Manitowoc EnergyMizer webpage says, “Tier 3 energy efficient models are right around the corner.” Stay tuned – it looks like there’ll be more good news for fans of forward-thinking, practical energy-efficient restaurant equipment coming from Manitowoc ice machines soon.
