Ideas to Help Your Restaurant Spring Forward

Spring is a great time to make all of the changes to your restaurant that you’ve been considering for a while but haven’t yet put into place. The changes can be of the cosmetic variety, such as updating the decor or adding a fresh coat of paint, or they can be more meaningful, such as modifying the menu or upgrading the kitchen equipment. Regardless of the types of changes you choose to implement, the goal should be to give your customers an amazing dining experience that they will want to replicate again and again. Towards that end, here are some ideas to help your restaurant spring forward:

  • Deep clean the seating area, bar, restrooms, and other parts of the establishment that are visible to patrons. Cleaning activities may include washing and waxing the floors, shampooing the carpets, removing built up grease and grime, replacing damaged upholstery, and sanitizing the restrooms.
  • Deep clean the kitchen and food preparation areas as well, and while doing so, confirm that all equipment is operating soundly. Pay particular attention to commercial dishwashers, refrigerators, ice makers, chilled display cases, grills, and other items that are used heavily in spring and summer.
  • Make changes to the menu that will accommodate customers’ desire for lighter, more refreshing meals. Fresh fruit and salads, grilled vegetables, barbecued meats, citrusy desserts, and iced or frozen beverages can be offered in place of hearty stews, savory roasts, and hot drinks.
  • Test out the air conditioning units before warm weather arrives and schedule repairs or installations as soon as possible.
  • Enhance your restaurant’s curbside appeal by sweeping the sidewalk and entranceway, adding potted plants or flowers to the area, and repainting the exterior.
  • Attract foot traffic by prominently advertising daily specials or menu favorites. You should also consider creating an outdoor seating area (if space permits) or at least providing a bench and chairs in a shaded spot for customers to use while waiting for a table or for the rest of their party to arrive.
  • Take note of upcoming holidays, such as St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, as well as local festivals and events so you can plan special food and beverage promotions. Then get the word out to customers on social media and other marketing platforms well in advance to help ensure a good turnout.

Depending on the general state of your restaurant and your budget, you can scale these ideas as needed. The important thing is to give your customers something new to look forward to as they spring into the new season.
